| Absinthe Radio was launched
in April, 1999 by a guy named Vaz, to put it in his words, "as an experiment
in multimedia-enriched graphical chat". By 2005 Vaz had decided to
give up Absinthe Radio. He had grand visions for this site, wanting it to
be the premiere source of Jazz Age music and information, but he just didn't
have the time. Enter Wally Stephens.
I have always been excited by early Jazz. The first LP I bought as a kid back in the early 80's was Glenn Miller's In the Mood. I had heard the title cut many times and loved it, and something about the candid photo of Glenn on the jacket intrigued me. By the time I got it on the turn table I was hooked. My fascination with absinthe began during my art and literature studies. If Oscar drank it, I had to know what all the fuss was about. After college, I lived in Manhattan for 10 years where I met my wife, a gorgeous actress / TWA flight attendant extraordinaire. Moving to Tampa Bay in 2003, we settled in a bungalow built in 1920. During our restoration research, I stumbled upon Absinthe Radio, just about the time that Vaz was ready to pack it in. My love of Jazz, absinthe and the romantic nostalgia of bygone trips to Paris on TWA all seemed to conspire against me. It just seemed like a good fit, and I agreed to take it over. Since then, my knowledge and appreciation of the genre has expanded considerably. Give a listen and let me know what you think. Wally Stephens "After one glass you see things as
you wish they were. After two glasses you see the things as they should
be. After three glasses you see the world as it really is, and that's
the most terrible thing imaginable." |
